This loot list is dedicated for helping you gear up your rogue as best as possible. This list includes all Azeroth (pre-Burning
Crusade) loot up to patch 2.3, but no end-game content or Outland gear. The list is split into the following parts:
Please note: This list is by no means a "rogue's have exclusive rights to this" equip list. Please be considerate of
your group members and respect loot rules. Most of the higher-end items are useful to multiple classes and there may be items
listed here that, although useful on a rogue, are possibly more effective in another classes hands.
New for 1.10, the Darkmantle rogue set is obtained by completing a long series of quests
which will upgrade your Shadowcraft set. You will need the corresponding shadowcraft set piece for each step in the upgrade process.
A deep Assassination tree favors a dagger-centic Rogue build and has a great deal of burst damage boosting talents. Ealy points
are well spent here, however deep Assassination is not widely used by leveling Rogues due to the position requirements of Daggers,
and relatively low utility. Mutilate is an excellent hybrid PvE and PvP skill however, and some Rogues prefer to wait until
Outland so they can place the required 41-points in this tree with two solid daggers. The choice between the remaining 20 points
in Combat or Subtlety come down to more reliable sustained DPS (Combat) vs burst (Subtlety).
Without a doubt the most popular leveling build, Combat excels in high sustained damage. Many talents here focus on boosting
white damage a great deal, and Combat Rogues tend to look for gear high in AP and Hit since so much of their damage is based
on auto-attack rather than specials. Weapon selection tends to be narrow since you'll want to take the respective talent (ie
Swords, Maces, or Fists) and while Combat Daggers is okay in raiding, it's arguably one of the most ineffective solo specs.
This tree can be split into a variety of different builds employing very different tactics for different purposes. The title
build focuses around maxizing burst damage with the constantly updating Shadowstep exploying a Dagger-centric build. The idea is
that you'll load so much up-front damage on your foe that it will take only moments to finish the job. This rather bold and risky
build tends to only be popular with Rogue veterans for leveling, and a more reliable sustained damage hybrid Subtlety / Combat
build can be seen here.
